Constraints of human development in Iraq

Abstract

     The main objective of this study is to shed light on the most important obstacles that prevent the achievement of the desired human development in Iraq and ways to address them, in addition to knowing the most important strategies appropriate for them or reducing their impact, as the human development process may be delayed in a country due to the presence of these obstacles. Understanding these obstacles will enhance our ability to highlight the challenges facing societies and individuals in their efforts to achieve progress and development. The researcher used the descriptive analytical approach in analyzing and describing the obstacles and their causes. The researcher used statistical data to show the true picture of these obstacles. The results showed the emergence of a set of obstacles that had the greatest and most prominent impact on the emergence of these problems, which were represented by the population increase, which resulted in many burdens that make it difficult to achieve development and a good level of basic requirements for the citizen, and the state of political instability, which had the most prominent impact in stopping and regressing the development process and disrupting and delaying development projects in all their forms and levels, in addition to the high rates of illiteracy and school dropout, which constituted an obstacle in the way of achieving human development and developing the capabilities of individuals and their future in Iraq, and the high rates of Unemployment leads to lower living standards, poor implementation of development projects, and failure to direct development to optimal investment, which in turn affects all development indicators such as health, education, and nutrition. The study concluded that it is necessary to adopt treatments and solutions and to develop new legislation and laws that keep pace with the purpose of reducing the causes of these obstacles, in addition to adopting development strategies that suit the reality of the Iraqi economy and eliminating the phenomenon of unemployment by the state adopting economic and social policies by providing suitable job opportunities for young people, in addition to developing radical solutions to the phenomenon of illiteracy.
