Slip of the tongue" in Arabic linguistic thought, a search for the conceptual equivalent

Abstract

“Slip of the tongue” is a term that means “the deviation of
the speaker from the intended speech by unintentional words, and
the reason for it is not the absence of a linguistic rule, ignorance of
the linguistic rule, deliberate linguistic manipulation, or a defect in
the speaking apparatus.” And slips of the tongue are a general
linguistic phenomenon that occurs to all people, whether they
speak fluently or not, and it happens to the native and non-native
speakers. It also occurs in all ages. It also occurs in all languages.
Speak in any situation, formal or informal.
This study dealt with the "slip of the tongue", which gained
great scientific momentum, and occupied the modern linguistic
study for decades, but it is almost an area absent from modern
Arabic linguistic studies. This study attempted to reveal the true
location of slip of the tongue -in its concept in modern linguisticsin Arabic linguistic thought, based on a deep study of Sibawayh's
book, and an extensive reading of the rest of the writings of
Arabic linguistic thought. The study achieved some objectives,
including: shedding light on a real pioneer in the awareness of slip
of the tongue among Arab linguists, especially Sibawayh, and the
study also found the conceptual equivalent in Sibawayh's book for
the term "slip of the tongue", and the study came out with a
number of other results of importance
