Spatial analysis of the blind population in the Delta Planning Region :A study in population geography

Abstract

The study aimed to highlight the spatial variation of people with visual disabilities in the governorates of the Delta Planning Region, and also aimed to monitor their growth rate and percentage of people with disabilities, and was interested in shedding light on the causes of visual impairment, and the study concluded that the Delta Planning Region includes 44.1% of the total people with visual disabilities in Egypt, the Delta region includes a quarter of the elderly in the Republic who are prevalent among them chronic diseases, including diabetes, Egypt is eighth in the world.
Increasing the rate of visual disability among males of the Delta region compared to males of the Republic, reaching 34.5, 14.3 per hundred thousand of the population each, respectively, in 2017, while the rate of visual disability among females in the Delta region decreased from that in the Republic, and the most cases of blindness were for congenital reasons and that more than 90% of their income is not sufficient for their living requirements, and that the design of the housing in the Arab environment does not take into account the presence of disabilities in general and visual disabilities in particular. The study recommended the need for periodic medical care convoys for the early detection of diseases affecting the eyes among schoolchildren to avoid future health problems.
