The Political Awareness of Egyptian Youth: A Field Study on Different Social Strata

The current study aims to monitor the level of political awareness among young people and to identify the extent to which their political awareness differs according to study variables (gender, age, educational status, type of housing, residential area, and income). The study also analyzes the extent to which political awareness varies among different Social Strata, to provide recommendations and suggestions that may contribute to enhancing and developing the political awareness of youth. To achieve its objectives, the study employs a descriptive-analytical methodology and uses a political awareness scale developed by the researcher, which includes three sub-dimensions (political attentiveness, political knowledge, and political understanding) as the primary tool for data collection. The study relies on a sample of 150 young people selected purposively in the city of Beni -Suef.
The study reaches several results, the most important of which is the discovery of an average level of political awareness among the sample. The study also finds no statistically significant differences between male and female groups in each dimension of political awareness and overall political awareness. The study also reveals a positive correlation between educational status and political awareness, indicating that the higher the level of education, the higher the level of political awareness among youth. In addition, the study highlights differences between research groups regarding types of housing; specifically, private housing had higher levels of political awareness than lower-quality housing. The study also finds differences between research groups regarding residential areas, with higher-end areas having higher levels of political awareness. Finally, the study finds differences between research groups regarding Social Strata, with higher Social Strata groups having higher levels of political awareness.
