Abstract

        A shaman is a person who serves his people by acting as a mediator to the spirit world, and the claimed ability to communicate with the world after death is at least as old as the time when early humans first conceived of the idea that some part of them somehow escaped physical death and existed elsewhere. in the form of a spirit, and the grief that came with the sad thought of losing all contact with a loved one was lessened by the assertion of a fellow tribesman that he could still communicate with the spirit of a person lying in the grave, and among early humans were individuals who claimed to be able to Visiting the place of the dead were known to shamans, and the messages they conveyed from the spirit world were required by the elders in connection with every major tribal decision.
