Abstract

The study aimed to Identify the intellectual and theoretical foundations of succession planning in libraries and determine the reality and requirements of current succession planning in the libraries of South Valley University. It also aimed to identify the obstacles to succession planning in the libraries of South Valley University, and to provide a proposed vision for succession planning in the libraries of South Valley University. The study used the descriptive analytical approach and followed the method of systems analysis in developing the proposed concept, and the questionnaire was a tool for the study. The study concluded that the job succession process in South Valley University libraries is subject to ineffective foundations and criteria (such as seniority) and the lack of interest of senior management at South Valley University in succession planning programs. There is no objective performance appraisal system by which to identify the potential leadership talents of university librarians. Based on its results, the study recommended that the General Administration of Libraries at South Valley University adopt the proposed plan presented by the study to plan job succession in the libraries of South Valley University. Provide an objective performance appraisal system through which the elite of librarians and managers can be identified.
