Abstract

The study aims to investigate and determine reality of faculty and teaching staff members in the departments of libraries and information at Egyptian universities and their use of the Smart Chat Robot "Chat GPT" smart chatbot in scientific research and knowledge acquisition. It also aims to identify the areas of usage, understand the advantages and risks of using it, and present mechanisms and proposals for benefiting from it. In addition, the study aims to uncover statistically significant differences between the study variables.
The study used a survey method and a questionnaire as a research tool, with a sample of 112 faculty and teaching staff members and assistants. The study found that (52.7%) of the study sample have a moderate level of awareness of ChatGPT. One of the main reasons for not using it was the lack of sufficient training to deal with it. The primary area of usage was obtaining information and knowledge on any topic. The study recommends the need to raise awareness, culture and increase training about the concept, importance, and benefits of generative artificial intelligence applications, and the necessity of including them in the curricula of libraries and information departments at Egyptian universities.
