Social determinants of infant mortality in New Valley Governorate: A field study in the city of Kharga

Abstract

The current research attempts to shed light on the phenomenon of infant mortality in the New Valley Governorate, as it aims to identify the social determinants of infant mortality in the governorate through a descriptive study on families with cases of infant death, specifically in the city of Kharga, and their number reached 30 families, based on the data of the Egyptian Household Health Survey. 2021. The social determinants in the research included education, health care, the economic status of the family, cultural patterns, and environmental factors. These determinants play crucial roles in determining health outcomes for infants. The results showed that reducing infant mortality rates requires a comprehensive approach that addresses various social determinants. By investing in education, improving access to health care services, ensuring clean environments, enhancing cultural patterns, and prioritizing economic development, governments, decision-makers, and policy makers can develop strategies and adopt policies that address the challenges facing society. The research concluded with a set of recommendations, the most important of which are raising the level of health services provided in the governorate and improving their quality, raising awareness and health education for the population about the importance and necessity of reporting and recording infant deaths when they occur, unifying the process of issuing data on infant deaths, working to enhance environmental health and providing sanitation. And pure water.
