Abstract

The current study aimed to verify the effectiveness of a counseling program based on cognitive-behavioral theory in reducing the level of anxiety for a sample school student in the city of Aden who were selected in a simple random way from Marib High School in the Al-Mualla area of Aden Governorate. The students in the study were randomly distributed into two groups: an experimental group It included (30 students) who were exposed to the counseling program, and a control group that included (30 students) who were not exposed to the program. The Taylor anxiety test was applied to both study groups before and after exposure to the program. To answer the hypothesis in this study, the arithmetic means, standard deviations, and accompanying analysis of variance were calculated. The results of the study indicated that there were statistically significant differences at the level of 0.05 between the average scores of the experimental and control groups on the total score of the scale and were in favor of the experimental group in the pre- and post-measurements, which indicates the effectiveness of the applied training program in reducing the level of anxiety.

In light of these results, a set of recommendations and proposals were developed, which are to provide an appropriate climate to help students achieve their goals and ambitions, and to encourage them to participate in all community activities so that they can benefit from their free time in serving themselves, their families, their faith, and their country.
