Text cohesion is one of the most important notions in text linguistics as it leads to text coherence. This study explored the most important tool used to create text cohesion and coherence which is reference taking examples from the Hadiths of the Two Chapters of Sahih al-Bukhari: Politeness and Seeking Permission. Reference is considered the most frequently used tool in creating text cohesion as “it is commonly used to join sentences and statements that form texts”. It is also an important tool in lexical cohesion playing an important role in connecting speech to what is next or before. It is also important not only for the text itself but also for the context. That is, reference plays an important part in joining the parts of the text to each other to make a coherent text Key Words in the text Text Cohesion- Coherence- Reference- Pronouns- Deictic Expressions- Relative Pronouns- Comparatives and Superlatives
