Infanticide in Andalusia during the Umayyad dynasty (138 - 422 AH / 755 - 1030 AD)

Abstract

Andalusia witnessed the beginning of a new rule for the Umayyads after the fall of their rule in the Levant in the year (132 AH/749 AD). This rule began with the accession of Abd al-Rahman al-Dakhil (138 AH/755 AD), and finally ended in the year (422 AH/1030 AD). During this period, Andalusia witnessed many political events that had an impact on Andalusian society and the course of affairs, whether negatively or positively, including the killing of sons. The research aims to shed light on the phenomenon of killing sons under the Umayyad rule in Andalusia.            As a result of the application of the inheritance system in government, and the lack of a fixed system for the succession of the covenant, which led to political ambitions in the souls of the children who believe that they have the right to assume power based on old age or participation in the tasks of government. Among the reasons that led to their revolutions, conspiracies, slanders, violations and transgressions in order to reach the seat of government, as well as the social factor and the occurrence of drought and poor conditions in society, in addition to that the religious factor and the support and incitement of jurists, scholars and educators for children due to their position, which led to the presence of listening ears from Before the children, and as a result of the above, the fathers killed their children to maintain power and achieve stability in the state .
