Abstract

The study aims to shed light on the current state of the urban transportation system in the city of Amiriya Al-Somoud and its spatial distribution for the year 2023. It highlights the actual condition by examining the natural geographic factors affecting transportation in the city in light of the changes it has undergone. The study also assesses the efficiency of its street network based on several local statistical criteria adopted by the Ministry of Planning and the General Traffic Directorate to ensure the smooth and safe movement of vehicles. It includes residents' opinions on the urban transportation system in the city and its impact on daily commutes through a questionnaire distributed across all residential neighborhoods in the study area.
The study employs the historical method to trace the historical stages of transportation development, as well as descriptive, quantitative, analytical, and statistical methods to present and analyze data, supported by statistical techniques to achieve the desired objective through field study. It also incorporates spatial analysis within the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) environment (ArcGIS 10.5), including map drawing, measuring areas and street lengths, and counting streets based on official maps and satellite imagery. The research focuses solely on studying natural geographic factors and their impact on transportation, including geographic location, spatial relationships, geological structure, topography, temperature, rainfall, wind, fog, dust storms, soil, and water resources
