This research attempts to tackle the poetic texts of Abd al-Rahman Muqallid in his poetry collection titled “Poor People Working at the Sea” through investigating the topic of belonging by relying on a thematic approach. This is mainly aimed to scrutinize the central idea in the collection and to tackle the poetic spirit that dominates the poet’s creativity. This is performed through monitoring observing rhetorical and lexical evidence that formed the fabric of the poetic text in the collection. The research also attempted, through studying the basic themes in the collection, to monitor the most important axes that controlled the content structures in the collection. Through relying on lexical compilation and semantic statistics of the values and characteristics that dominated the poet in the concerned poetic collection, it has been found out that the poet is concerned with a certain issue and that he is influenced by his environment, living with it, by it, and for it. The poet’s environment provided a special poetic vision through diverse axes of life situations and events, which unleashed the poet’s creative energies. His poems were loaded with these events and situations and expressed in a way that showed fear of the present and anxiety for the future. Moreover, the poetic experience is revealed through the themes formed for it، revealing the state of longings for the basics, in the poet’s struggle with life changes and intellectual revolutions affecting the different categories of coastal and other environments. Accordingly, the poetic experience expressed and vividly revealed aspirations of those environments for a broader future through a return to simplicity and common sense (i.e. instinct). The poet's experience also revealed that the poet is totally concerned with love of freedom, searching for a world that he loves, using his coastal nature as a tool to soothe the soul, and as an attempt to live in a society that struggles with certain aesthetic possibilities to kill them, through oppression and social marginalization.
