Abstract

In this research, I discussed the Islamic religious intertextuality in the art of the Waw and the Mawal among the poets of Qena and Luxor governorates. Moreover, I tackled the intertextuality with the Holy Qur’an. This is because the Holy Qur'an is the sacred spiritual text from which poets quote; to give their poetry a religious character. Then, I delved into intertextuality it with the Prophet’s (Muhammad "PBUH") biography. It is the second source of Islamic legislation, and it has its own impact on the soul of the recipient. This is followed by discussing intertextuality with figures of religious influence, including the figures of the prophets and messengers, the characters of the righteous, then the characters of the evil ones and enemies of religion. In this regard, the poets of the art of Waw and Mawal open up to the Holy Qur’an, the Sunnah of the Prophet, and influential religious figures according to three mechanisms; which are: citation, referral, and connotation.
