The Social and Religious Dimensions of the Christian Family Law Proposal: An Exploratory Study on a Sample of Representatives of the Churches of the Coptic Orthodox Diocese in Luxor

Abstract

The current study dealt with the subject of the personal status project for Christian families and aimed to reveal the social and religious dimensions that stand behind the issuance of the legal proposal for the Christian family and highlight its objectives, importance and those in charge of building it, and identify the problems that the new law will address with clarification, in addition to revealing the treatment of the new law according to the Coptic Orthodox Church of related concepts such as:  (Dissolution of marriage (civil separation), invalidity of marriage (divorce), divorce, adultery, inheritance) as well as addressing the challenges that may hinder the issuance of the law, so the study relied on the descriptive analytical approach and the historical approach and the case study method, as the study used the semi-organized interview guide, newsmen, telephone communication and content analysis.
The study reached several results, including: The legal proposal of the Christian family is flexible in litigation. The law was drafted on an evangelical approach that did not contradict the teachings of the Bible and canonical laws, based on the teachings of the Apostles and the Church. The term unified project means that the project participated in the preparation and formulation of items, all five recognized churches, and everyone has agreed on some articles, and others of the articles differed each church and specialized in its own article and based on its teachings and doctrine..
