Linguistic development among premature infants in the light of parental upbringing

Abstract

The current study aimed to find out the relationship between parental treatment styles (democratic style - acceptance - independence - neglect and cruelty - overprotection), and to study the differences between rural and urban residents in linguistic development. The basic sample consisted of (66) parents of premature children from the governorates of (Qena, Luxor, Sohag, and Aswan), whose ages ranged between (22-48 years) with an average age of (32.9) and a standard deviation of (5.1). Their ages ranged Children between (3-7 years) with an average age of (4.8) and a standard deviation of (1.1); They were given a measure of parental treatment methods prepared by the researcher and a measure of linguistic development prepared by Suhair Kamel Ahmed and Boutros Hafez (2009). The results revealed a positive relationship between positive treatment methods (democratic - acceptance - independence) and linguistic development and a negative relationship between neglect and cruelty methods and linguistic development.; There is no relationship between overprotection and linguistic growth. The results also showed that there are differences between rural and urban residents in linguistic development in favor of rural residents.
