Abstract

The research attempts to stand on the use of metonymy as a means of argumentation and persuasion in the discourse. This method is considered an essential part of the art of Arabic rhetoric, as the use of metonymy reflects the ability of the writer or speaker to express directly or indirectly the ideas and meanings that he wishes to convey.
The research also deals with the strategy of metonymy as an argumentative mechanism, and its effect on the success of the persuasive process in the noble prophetic discourse, in my books (Al-Jami' Al-Sahih and Al-Adab Al-Mufrad by Imam Al-Bukhari), and how the Prophet The Prophet ]Muhammad[ (PBUH) came with a strong eloquent style in which metonymy was within the noble woodcutter as a mechanism that serves the persuasive process, and enhances communication with the argument, which leads the recipient to firm conviction and complete certainty in the idea presented to him.
By following the evidence of metaphor in the books of Al-Jami’ Al-Sahih and Al-Adab Al-Mufrad by Imam Al-Bukhari, the different ways of expressing it and the difference in its meaning are noted. Also, by following the metaphor in the noble hadith, it was shown that the noble prophetic discourse benefited from metaphor and from its high expressive value. The Prophet ]Muhammad[ (PBUH) was able to adopt it as an effective means of strengthening the argumentative process, in terms of the power of influence and persuasion in the souls of others.
