Abstract

The 1950s witnessed significant progress in many fields, particularly in modern technology and the development of the automobile industry, as well as in cinema, radio, and television, which played a major role in presenting entertainment culture and promoting American popular culture in all its forms, commonly referred to as pop culture. This research paper includes several main themes: First, the concept of popular culture and the distinction between it and high culture from the perspective of many historians. Second, the 1950s and the significant social and cultural transformations it experienced. Third, the emergence of television and its substantial contribution to the transfer of popular culture around the world. Fourth, how popular culture triumphed and contributed to the emergence of a rebellious generation of teenagers who challenged most customs and traditions, creating a gap between generations. Fifth, the marketing of popular culture and how it contributed to spreading the American lifestyle and Americanization in many countries around the world through soft power. Sixth, the impact of popular culture on Europe and the extent to which its peoples, such as those in East and West Germany, the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia, Ireland, and others, were influenced by American popular culture, and how these countries resisted and rejected this culture out of concern for their national identity.
