Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the impact of digital media technology on the development of journalistic coverage methods and increasing audience engagement through a comparative analytical study of digital content in Egyptian newspapers. The study sought to uncover the relationship between the diversity of published content categories on news websites and the increase in visit rates, as well as to monitor the various journalistic formats on the sample websites and their relationship with the average time spent per visitor. Additionally, the study explored the advanced digital media technologies employed by the sample news websites and their relationship with the number of pages opened per visitor per session. It also analyzed the visit rates of the sample news websites and their correlation with the content of published topics and the use of social media for promotion. Furthermore, the study measured the percentage of device usage for browsing websites and its relationship with visit rates and average session duration. It also examined the most searched topics and their relationship with visit rates for each website. Finally, the study measured the number of visits from the top five countries to the sample news websites and their relationship with the types of topics published.
The study adopted a descriptive-analytical approach, relying on digital content analysis and a comparative methodology for a sample of Egyptian electronic newspapers. Content analysis was used, along with the SimilarWeb application to analyze data from the sample news websites. The study analyzed the websites of Al-Ahram, Al-Bawaba News, Al-Gomhuria Online, Youm7, Masrawy, and Veto.
The study revealed several key findings, including that political topics were the most prevalent, followed by economic and sports topics. It also found that societal trends and news events directly influence visit rates to the sample news websites. Additionally, a strong relationship was observed between visit rates and social media promotion, as well as the impact of diverse journalistic formats on the average time spent on news websites. Youm7 achieved the highest visit rate, highlighting the importance of content diversity in attracting audiences.
