Abstract

Translating fixed or idiomatic expressions is widely regarded as one of the most challenging aspects of translation. This process requires not only a solid understanding of the language but also familiarity with the culture of both the source and target languages. Moreover, the translator must have a good command of linguistic features such as structure and meaning. This study seeks to investigate the central issue of whether it is possible to translate idiomatic expressions in a literary text from Arabic to Persian without losing its original meanings and connotations. This will be examined through Heart of the Night, a novel by the international author Naguib Mahfouz, and its Persian translation, Del- Shab. The research will aim to answer the important question of whether translating idiomatic expressions is feasible, and if so, what the best approach would be, while also evaluating whether the translator Kazem Al-Yassin has successfully rendered them from Arabic to Persian or no?
