Abstract

Geopolitics in the Time of Cyberspaces:
The research study the impact of cyberspace on contemporary geopolitical transformations, and its role in reshaping global power dynamics in the digital age. The research presents a summary of the international changes that followed the Cold War, how geopolitics deals with globalization, and the multiplicity of flows that contribute to shaping cyberspace. It also discusses the challenges that the technological and information revolution has posed to traditional concepts of sovereignty and international conflicts, tracing the oscillation of geopolitical thought between the classical and critical schools.
The research also addresses the overlap between the physical and logical infrastructures of cyberspace, and the impact of this overlap on national security. It reviews real-life cases of major cyber attacks, explaining through these examples how digital technology is reshaping the world’s geopolitics, highlighting the growing role of cyberspace as a strategic tool in international relations.
The study opens new horizons for understanding conflicts in cyberspace from a contemporary geopolitical perspective, and reinforces the need for integrated international strategies to deal with the challenges arising from this field. It also highlights the importance of achieving a balance between security, freedom, and individual rights, while integrating cyberspace as a fundamental element in geopolitical analysis to understand the complex transformations the world is witnessing. The study addresses the overlap of physical and virtual dimensions in shaping international policies, ensuring sovereignty and enhancing security in the face of increasing digital challenges.
The research concludes that it is necessary to develop an analytical model that combines classical and critical perspectives to address the tensions between the material and immaterial dimensions of power in cyberspace. This model takes into account the legal, ethical and political challenges posed by this dynamic field.
