Abstract

This exploratory study aimed to assess the awareness of faculty members at Benha University regarding the impact of artificial intelligence on copyright and intellectual property rights, with a focus on legal and ethical aspects. The researcher adopted a descriptive-analytical approach, designing an electronic questionnaire to collect data from a stratified random sample of 125 faculty members across various academic disciplines in the Faculty of Arts at Benha University.
The questionnaire covered seven main themes, including participants' knowledge of artificial intelligence, their awareness of intellectual property rights, the impact of AI on these rights, and the ethical values associated with its use. The results revealed varying levels of awareness among disciplines, with AI knowledge reaching 91.2%, while only 58.4% demonstrated superficial familiarity with laws related to intellectual property rights. Additionally, the findings showed that 57.9% of participants occasionally use AI tools in scientific research, with 84.4% relying on "ChatGPT" as a primary tool. However, 57.9% believed that AI would still require human supervision in the future.
The study concluded by emphasizing the need to enhance legal and ethical awareness among faculty members and recommended incorporating AI and intellectual property topics into training programs. It also suggested developing clear university policies to ensure the responsible use of these technologies in academic production
