Forensic linguistics is considered one of the most recent branches of applied linguistics. This field focuses on the relationship between language and all matters related to the law. The aim of this study is to present a comparative perspective between the traditional Arabic approach and the contemporary Western approach in the field of forensic linguistics. It also seeks to shed light on this modern linguistic discipline, clarifying its role and significance by addressing several key questions, such as: What are the most important linguistic contributions in the Arabic heritage that fall within the scope of modern forensic linguistics? How has the concept of forensic linguistics evolved in Western studies? What are its main areas of application? What are the points of convergence and divergence between traditional Arabic studies and Western studies in forensic linguistics?
Due to the nature and objectives of the research, a comparative methodology was adopted—specifically, comparing the concepts and applications of forensic linguistics in different contexts (Arabic and Western)—with the aim of identifying similarities and differences in the use of these concepts, and the underlying reasons behind them, in order to achieve a deeper and more comprehensive understanding.
The study led to several findings, most notably the agreement between traditional Arabic and modern Western studies in terms of general objectives, methodological precision, reliance on language, and attention to detail. However, some differences were also found, such as differences in sources of legislation, the mechanisms employed, scientific context, and other related results.
