Abstract

The topic of cosmic changes on the Day of Resurrection occupies a central place in Islamic creed, as it represents one of the pillars of faith in the unseen, which can only be understood through revelation, the exegetes have addressed these scenes with analysis and clarification, following the methodology of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Gama`a, However, some modern interpretations have tended towards rational interpretations far from the apparent meaning of the text, the most prominent of these is Tafsir Haqaiq al-Furqan by al-Hakim Nur al-Din Baherawi, one of the prominent figures of the rationalist school in the Indian subcontinent, in which he presented multiple interpretations of the celestial and terrestrial changes accompanying the Day of Resurrection, it differed in some aspects from the approach of the exegetes and raised doctrinal problems.
Hence, this study comes under the title: Models of Cosmic Changes on the Day of Resurrection in Tafsir Haqaiq al-Furqan by al-Hakim Nur al-Din Baherawi. An Analytical and Critical study, to examine the most prominent of these interpretations through critique and analysis, following an inductive, analytical, and critical methodology, by tracing the relevant Qur`nic verses, translating them, and presenting the author`s statements regarding them, then evaluating them in the light of the Qur`an , the Sunnah, and the views of exegetes, while drawing upon both Arabic and Urdu sources.
This study also aims to uncover the impact of the rationalist tendency on the interpretation of the unseen, and to evaluate these approaches according to the principles of Ahl al-Sunaah wa al-Gama`a, and to highlight the importance of maintaining balance integration between reason and revelation, without excess or neglect.
