Tolerance as an indicator of recovery from addiction to some drugs

Abstract

Abstract

The study aimed to reveal differences in (tolerance - recovery from addiction to some narcotic substances) according to some demographic variables (age - duration of abuse), and to reveal the contribution of the variable (tolerance) in predicting recovery from addiction to some narcotic substances. The study sample consisted of (170) recovered addicts examined at the Azima Center for Addiction Treatment - Qena, Sohag Hospital for Mental Health and Addiction Treatment, and Al-Maamra Hospital for Mental Health and Addiction Treatment. The subjects were subjected to the Tolerance Scale, prepared by (Tohmpson et al., 2005), translated by Al-Sharbiny Mansour (2005), and the Drug Addiction Recovery Scale (prepared by the researcher). The study results revealed no statistically significant differences in tolerance and its dimensions, except for the self-forgiveness dimension. There were no statistically significant differences in recovery from addiction to some drugs and its dimensions, according to age, in favor of older individuals. There were also no statistically significant differences in tolerance and its dimensions, except for the self-forgiveness dimension. There were no statistically significant differences in recovery from addiction to some drugs and its dimensions, except for the professional and therapeutic recovery dimensions, according to the duration of drug use, in favor of those who used them for more than one year. The study results also revealed the contribution of tolerance in predicting recovery from addiction to some drugs
