Reality of Applying the Principle of Institutional Effectiveness in Libraries of South Valley University in The Light of Standards of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL)

Abstract

The study aims at monitoring and investigating reality of applying quality control standards in university libraries at South Valley University in the light of the standards of higher education libraries (ACRL) through determining scientific concepts of quality control standards in university libraries in general and through investigating reality of applying (ACRL) in particular in libraries of the Practical Colleges and Humanities sector in South Valley University.
The study relied on the survey approach through relying on its descriptive and analytical aspects because of being the most suitable one for field studies. This is mainly aimed for investigating and surveying opinions of managers of libraries concerned in this study. The study reached a lot of findings, and the most significant of which are the following: there is a higher rate reaching (68.00%) of non-specialists in libraries. This indicates limited competence in the study environment. The study also found out that the rates of library and information professionals were only (32.00%). These indicators prove the specialized gap of the reality of study libraries. However, the study revealed high indicators of applying the principles of (ACRL) standard in libraries in the faculties and humanities sector in South Valley University in varying ratios showing the extent of the study libraries' adherence to quality control standards in university libraries.
The most prominent recommendations of the study include: there is a need to assign leadership positions in university libraries to specialists in library and information sciences. This is in addition to recommending the need to have experts who are specialists in quality management and university management to provide training courses for academic library workers to develop their skills in how to apply quality control standards, and all new international standards related to library quality.
