Spiritual Intelligence as a Moderator Variable of the Relationship between Depression and Suicidal Thinking in a sample of recovering from addiction

Abstract

The study aims to verify the  relationship between interests and spiritual thinking among addicts and non-addicts, and to reveal the approach of spiritual intelligence in the compatibility between interests and thinking among addicts. The study consisted of (46) recovering addicts, head of Dar Al Amal for psychiatrists who treat addiction. The sample of addiction was (52) non-addicts, taken from workers in education and some university students and graduates. The study relied on the following tools: the Spiritual Intelligence Scale prepared by (Dryer & Amram, 2008) translated by Ismail Arnot (2013), the Beck Depression Inventory prepared by (Beck, 1961) translated and standardized by (Ahmed Abdel Khaleq, 1996), the Creative Thinking Scale prepared by (the researchers). The results of the study showed a statistically significant negative relationship between spiritual intelligence and depression, and a statistically significant negative relationship between spiritual intelligence and thinking about death. It was also found that statistical isolation weakens the effect of spiritual intelligence. On the ratio between patients and suicidal ideation, as the effect of spiritual intelligence modifies the ratio between patients and suicidal ideation.
